Apps need updating to make sure they’re secure and are able to perform at their best. Here’s how to check for app updates in iOS 13.
Those who are using iOS 13 are likely to be surprised that updating apps is no longer done the same way as before. Previous iOS versions used to display the “Updates” tab at the bottom of the screen when in the App Store. Apple changed this in iOS 13 and replaced the “Updates” tab with the “Arcade” tab. Updates will now be updated via the user’s profile
So how can iOS 13 users update their apps? Here’s how:
- First, iOS 13 users will need to open the App Store app, and then click on either the “Today” tab or the “Search” tab.
- Next, locate the user profile icon located at the top right corner of the screen (a red notification badge will be seen on the user profile icon if there are pending updates waiting to be installed), then click on the user profile icon. This will lead to the Account page.
- Once the Account page opens up, a list of updates should be visible below the “Personalized Recommendations” option, under the aptly named “Available Updates” section. If no updates are showing, users can force the device to check for updates by pulling down the screen.
- Users can then choose to update specific apps by tapping on “Update,” or get all available updates at once by tapping on “Update All.” As mentioned above, updating all apps will result in better security and performance. Apple said updates on iOS 13 will be smaller compared to previous iOS versions — by up to 60%.
Those who don’t want to bother updating apps manually can activate the “Automatic Updates” feature. Those who have Automatic Updates turned on won’t need to do update apps personally. The iPhone will check for updates by itself and will download available updates automatically. Automatically updated apps will be seen in a section called “Updated Recently.”

Apple also tweaked the update section to allow users to delete or uninstall apps directly from the App Store. A new “delete” option will appear when users swipe left on any update or recently updated app. This will help particularly those who have a lot of unused apps on their iPhones.
