Google Pixel 3 Referral Program Launched With Rs. 7,000 Instant Discount and Other Benefits

In order to boost sales, Google has launched a new Pixel 3 ₹ 63,155 referral offer for Pixel and Nexus users this holiday season. As part of this new program, Google is offering Rs. 7,000 instant discount to the referee, and a Rs. 2,000 e-gift voucher to the referrer. This offer has been launched on Flipkart, and will be live till December 20. The referral codes that will be generated during this period will only be valid till December 24, after which they will no longer hold any value.

As part of this program, a Pixel or Nexus user will need to go into their Flipkart app, and click on a targeted banner highlighting this offer. The banner leads to a page that lists offer details and asks for an email ID. Flipkart will then mail the generated code and a unique link within 48 hours. This link can be used by the user themselves, or share it with another user to avail the benefits while purchasing the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL ₹ 77,842. As mentioned, this link will be valid only till December 24, after which it cannot be used to get the instant Rs. 7,000 discount. Once the referee opens the unique link and validates the code, the offer will get tagged to the buyer’s Flipkart account until expiry. Before December 24, the referee can then buy the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL anytime on Flipkart and get Rs. 7,000 off on the purchase. This is exclusive of any other offer running at that time, applying which, will entail the buyer to more discount on the Pixel 3 series.

Currently, Flipkart is offering up to Rs. 14,900 on exchange of old phones, and Rs. 4,500 off on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL all variants due to the Big Shopping Days sale. New vivo NEX 2 leaked images reveal the secondary screen

The Chinese company vivo is planning to launch the NEX 2 in the following days, and even though we don’t have an official confirmation, all signs lead to the date December 11. That’s when we expect to see the dual screen device officially, but as usual in the smartphone business, live photos were leaked ahead of schedule, leaving nothing to the imagination.

The user and tech blogger in China ophone8 posted plenty of photos of the vivo NEX 2 in two colors, showing its two sides, and there’s even a shot where the back is compared to the vivo NEX S.

Although the phones are not powered on, we can see the miniature bezels on the front panel, while the back has a small screen, along with the vivo logo and the triple camera setup. It is in a circular module that we already know from previous teasers that it would have RGB lighting.

The vivo NEX 2 will arrive in at least two colors, going one step further than the vivo NEX S that was only available in Black but had neat RGB accents under different lighting. The color of the new phone will be seen mostly on the rim since actual screens occupy both the front and back. The new device will have USB-C on the bottom, while the 3.5 mm audio jack is safe and sound on the top.

Meanwhile, the company is already teasing the vivo NEX 2 on Chinese TV and social media, with the video above suggesting we’re about to see something that should belong to the distant future or that we should believe more in ourselves and to dream bigger or something else. Let us know what you think the video is saying down in the comments.

vivo NEX 2 to have 10GB of RAM, in-screen speaker, f/1.3 camera

The vivo NEX 2 will likely have 10GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 845 chipset. The information is confirmed by a Geekbench listing of a vivo V1821A device with the aforementioned credentials. Interestingly the vivo in question is also running Android 9 Pie, which would make it the first vivo smartphone on Android’s latest software.

According to a related leak, the main camera on the back of the vivo NEX 2 (one of three) will have an ultra fast f/1.3 aperture – claiming the spot of the smartphone with the widest aperture around.

As for the screens, rumor has it the main screen will be a 6.59-inch panel with screen sound casting tech (meaning you’ll hear calls through the screen itself, like on the first-gen vivo NEX) while the second display will be a 5.5-incher that will work independently. We know how vivo intends to switch between screens – with a three-finger gesture.

Finally the vivo NEX 2 will apparently come with a smaller battery compared to its rival. This could be due to the space required for the second screen. Of course the information could also be false.

vivo will likely announce the NEX 2 on December 11.

Pocophone F1 beta software enables 960 fps slow-motion video recording

Gartner published its report on smartphone sales for the Q3 2018 period. The overall market grew merely 1.4% and reached 389 million units. While Samsung is ahead, Huawei is catching up, and if it weren’t for Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo, the global market would’ve declined by 5.2%, compared with Q3 2017.

Total 389,068.2 100.0 383,593.4 100.0

The analysts say Samsung experienced the most significant decline since the company is tracking smartphone sales. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note9 devices could not help reduce the fall, and the Korean maker saw a 14% drop YoY. Combined with Huawei’s massive increase in sales, the gap between the two manufacturers shrunk significantly.

One of the major reasons Huawei is so successful is its aggressive positioning of the affordable Honor devices. A testament for the success in sales are the shopping holidays in India, China, and the Western World, where Honor smashed various records.

Apple’s sales in Q3 2018 remained flat – only 0.7% growth, or just 300,000 smartphones. Anshul Gupta, Research Director at Gartner, said the company is facing fierce competition in China and is targeting an already saturated premium market across the globe. The data shows iPhone XS Max was the more desired smartphone than the iPhone XS.

While the global smartphone market is currently losing steam, technologies like 5G and foldable phones can boost user experience and offer new user value. 2019 will be a year for cautious testing, but 2020 is expected to see 65 million sales of 5G-enabled smartphones.

The foldable devices will arrive as early as next year, but they will be expensive, and it will take time for manufacturers to build an ecosystem around the new handsets, so we shouldn’t expect them to have a major impact on sales volume.

If your iPhone battery needs to be replaced, do it before December 31

After last year’s fiasco about Apple slowing down iPhones with old batteries, the company decided to make amends by offering discounted battery replacement for all handsets ranging from iPhone SE and iPhone 6 all the way up to iPhone X. But that period will soon come to an end.

So if you are in need of a new iPhone battery, there’s no better time than this month, because Apple is currently charging just $29, down from $79 and prices will go up after that. Most older iPhones will be repaired for $49 in 2019, but the iPhone X battery swap will set you back $69.

And if you are wondering about the new iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, they aren’t included in the program since they were launched long after the debacle. And besides, they are still under warranty.

Apple Warned iPhones Have A Serious Problem

faces a new threat not only to its latest iPhones but every iPhone and iPad you can buy…

In short: the data on all iPhones and iPads running iOS 12 is not safe. This comes after an announcement from popular data recovery company DriveSavers that files on these devices can be accessed with “a 100% success rate”. Furthermore, unlike most security holes which are disclosed to Apple, this one is being kept secret.

Apple’s iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XRApple

Why? Speaking to MacRumors, DriveSavers said it is building a service around the exploit and charging users up to $3,900 if they want to access locked devices. That said, the company stresses it is using strict identification protocols from customers to ensure they are not hacking an iPhone or iPad which doesn’t belong to them.

Whether or not you choose to believe DriveSavers about this, the problem is others may not be so ethical.

With DriveSavers keeping the flaw a secret to protect its new service, Apple has a major job on its hands to find and fix it. And until then, the race is on for more nefarious hackers to discover and exploit it …if they aren’t already.

And the prizes are high.

Samsung, Huawei and Apple shipped the most phones in Q3

At the beginning of the month, we showed you Counterpoint Research’s numbers for the global Q3 market and today we have a further breakdown, including a cool infographic.

To rehash, in the months July through September Samsung captured the most market share (19%), fending off Huawei (14%), which in turn beat Apple (12%). Oppo and Xiaomi ended on par at 9% each, beating vivo’s share by a single percentage point. HMD didn’t ship that many phones, but its shipments grew 73% over the same three months in 2017.

The third quarter of 2018 saw 5% less phones shipped, compared to Q3 of 2017 – totaling 380m units.

Now the breakdown – Oppo took the Asian market with 16% total, followed closely by Huawei (15%), vivo (15%) and Xiaomi (14%). Samsung was relegated to just 10%.

Unsurprisingly, Apple took the biggest portion of the North American market (39%), followed by Samsung (26%).

Samsung’s strongest market was Europe with 31% market share, followed by Huawei’s 22% and Apple’s 19% – no other makers were close.

Overall it was a profitable Q3 for some, despite the declining shipments. Samsung posted record profits, while Xiaomi offset a declining Chinese market with a strong showing in India. Apple’s shipments were flat but its skyrocketing average sales price helped Cupertino bring in the profits.

Microsoft shortly passed Apple as the most valuable American company

For a while this Monday, Microsoft surpassed Apple as the most valuable United States-based company. The software company hit a valuation point of $813 billion today, which was just $1 billion ahead of Apple. Considering that not long ago Apple (and Amazon not too long after) broke $1 trillion valuation, it has come a long way down since then, due in part to Apple’s latest (and most expensive) smartphones (XR, XS, XS Max) not selling as well as anticipated.

It isn’t to say that Microsoft hasn’t faced any challenges lately, but Apple has been just been barely able to get by with investors. Its smartphone business has slowed down due to a very complicated list of factors but has tried to compensate revenue by raising the retail price of iPhones every year while also focusing on selling subscription based services like iCloud and Apple Music.

On the other hand, Microsoft is doing well with Azure cloud services and Office 365’s subscription-based model while Microsoft’s gaming segment (Xbox) is seeing strong forecasts with its Xbox All Access monthly subscription model. On a similar note, both Sony and Microsoft are rumored to be releasing brand-new consoles this year.

Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

We are anticipating a very interesting Q4 this year. Apple recently introduced its new iPad Pro, Mac Mini, and MacBook Air lineups which are coming out just in time for the shopping season. Its recent partnership with Amazon to sell Apple devices will also help boost some sales and we’re curious to see if 2018 iPhone sales will strengthen before the end of the year.
