Samsung Galaxy A80 with Snapdragon 730 gets benchmarked, reveals performance

Samsung Galaxy A80 with Snapdragon 730 gets benchmarked

The Samsung Galaxy A80 was announced a few days ago “A Galaxy Event” in Bangkok. This is currently Samsung’s flagship phone in the Galaxy A-series, and it surely earns that spot by offering a premium glass and metal design along with a unique pop-up rotating camera. Another feature that makes it top-end is the Snapdragon 730 chipset. This is Qualcomm’s newest and most powerful mid-range processor and we now have an AnTuTu benchmark score to give us an understanding of just how powerful this SoC really is.

The Galaxy A80 with model number SM-A805F was spotted on the AnTuTu benchmark site with the Snapdragon 730 chipset paired with Adreno 618 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy A80 scored 207,082, which is similar to the 2017 flagship Snapdragon 835 chipset, if not better. Of course, it will really boil down to real-world tests, and it’s still early in the days to see full-fledged reviews of the Galaxy A80.

At the sidelines of Samsung event on Wednesday, we managed to get some hands-on time with the Galaxy A80 and our initial impressions of the performance were positive. The phone certainly felt snappy and quick to load apps. The generous amount of RAM should also mean a smooth multitasking and gaming experience.

Speaking of gaming experience, we were told that the Galaxy A80 actually gets the Snapdragon 730G chipset where the “G” apparently stands for an enhanced gaming thanks to a slightly faster GPU. The Snapdragon 730 features two Kryo 460 Gold custom cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six Kryo 460 Silver custom cores clocking at 1.7Ghz.

The most notable feature about the Snapdragon 730 SoC is that it is based on an 8nm process, which should mean better power efficiency.

The Galaxy A80 sports 6.7-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) Super AMOLED display. It is Samsung’s first phone to come with a pop-up rotating camera. This design allows you to use the powerful triple rear camera setup for selfies as the camera module is able to flip to the front while using the selfie mode. The camera setup includes a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera and a ToF camera. The handset also houses a 3,700mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.
