After the horrific battery-gate incident in which multiple Galaxy Note 7 devices exploded globally three years ago, Samsung’s latest Galaxy S10 5G has burst into flames for unknown reasons as yet in South Korea.
According to AFP, a user reported that his brand new Galaxy S10 5G had mysteriously burnt while it was kept idle on a table. The user identified with the surname Lee was quoted as saying that he initially smelt something burning after which he saw smoke coming out from the device.
“My phone was on the table when it started smelling burnt and smoke soon engulfed the phone,” he said.
Lee further added that the device was so hot that he had to drop it to the ground. When Lee complained to Samsung, the company refused to reimburse $1,200 the cost of the smartphone. The report states that the charred Galaxy S10 was beyond repair as everything was burnt inside.
Samsung on its side carried out an inspection and claimed that the problem occurred due to an external impact, as per CNET.
This is the second time within weeks that a newly launched Samsung device has been in the news for a wrong reason. Recently, Samsung Galaxy Fold’s screen started blacking out or broke after few reviewers tried removing a thin film which they thought was a screen protector. Samsung since then has delayed the release of Galaxy Fold indefinitely.
Samsung has proudly promoted its Galaxy S10 as the world’s first commercial 5G smartphone. The smartphone was first launched in South Korea on April 5 and has begun taking pre-orders in the USA.
